Location of Wedding: Olympic National Park
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
We really fell in love with our wedding venue. One of our bucket list items is to visit all of the U.S. National Parks, so it was only fitting to hold our wedding in one of the parks. We found the perfect venue in Olympic National Park, which included the whole campus for the entire weekend for our guests. It really felt like "camp" -- we made s'mores by the campfire, went canoeing out on the lake, and were frequently visited by a family of deer. The relaxed vibe of the weekend made us feel like we were just on a big trip with our friends and family, and we genuinely had such a fun time being up there with everyone.
What do you think makes a wedding stylish and memorable?
I love it when the wedding really exudes the personality of the couple and has a focused vision from beginning to end. Authenticity also matters a lot; it's okay to bend some of the expected wedding "rules" to fit your unique situation. For example, my husband and I are both the youngest children of our families, so we have 15 nieces and nephews between both of us. Rather than only selecting one flower girl and ring bearer, we decided to embrace the fact that we have so many cute kids in our lives and asked all of them to be part of our wedding party. They definitely stole the show all night!
Describe your food. Did you have a signature cocktail?
The reception dinner was provided by the venue, which focused on preparing local and seasonal food (they provide hands-on environment science programs for children and teens for most of the year). We had wild Pacific salmon for our main entree -- a classic Northwest experience!
We didn't have a signature cocktail, but we had a well-stocked bar courtesy of Costco & Bevmo runs we made once we arrived in Seattle. There were a couple of kegs we also brought in that had local beer from Port Townsend.
What was your favorite part of working with Vow To Be Chic?
Once I started working with Monica, I felt a sense of relief because she was the first GREAT vendor I worked with in my wedding planning and I knew that I could trust her with my bridesmaid dresses. We threw a few curveballs at her along the way and she was always extremely accommodating, from rush shipping a shipment to Las Vegas in time for my bachelorette party to handling an entire change of our dress selections.
My bridal party lives in various states, so it was really convenient for her to contact them all and coordinate shipments on my behalf. I've gotten multiple thumbs-ups and compliments for Monica from my wedding party, and I'm grateful that everyone had a lovely experience working with Vow To Be Chic. We love Monica!
Where did you take your honeymoon?
We took a 2-part honeymoon to Fiji and New Zealand. Our original plan was just to do New Zealand, but once we realized that it didn’t cost much more to add on Fiji as our “layover,” we knew we had to fit that into our trip.
It turned out to be a great itinerary because we spent the first half of the honeymoon truly resting and relaxing to decompress from the days, weeks, and months of work leading up to the wedding. Once we got our fill of the beautiful ocean and sun in Fiji, we flew on over to New Zealand to add some more adventure into the honeymoon. We rented a campervan and drove around the South Island for a week to explore their majestic national parks, glaciers, and beaches. (It was also definitely interesting to spend the beginning of our marriage sleeping in the back of a converted minivan, cooking meals out of the trunk!) Our honeymoon was a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure that fit our personalities well.
What's your number one style tip for brides during bridal events such as engagement parties, bridal showers, and receptions?
Invest in a pair on Spanx... with all the white you'll be wearing, you don't want anything to show through!
