Lindsey & Scott’s Story
Scott and I met through the rowing program at University of San Diego, where we both attended college. I first remember officially meeting Scott at a Christmas rowing party during sophomore year. Over the summer, we both happened to study abroad in London, and lived in the same flat with fellow rowers. The next semester, we ran into each other during passing time on campus until Scott asked me out. Our first date was on December 2, 2011.
How He Proposed
At the time, we were living in Pensacola, Florida. Last June, Scott asked me if I wanted to take a walk on the beach. He usually said no when I asked to do that so I knew something was up. He drove to a remote part of Pensacola Beach, and after walking five steps together, Scott dropped to one knee, drew the ring from his pocket, and asked me to marry him. I laughed and said "Yes, I will!" We then went downtown to celebrate over dinner with friends. My engagement ring is a 2 carat oval blue sapphire with a pave diamond setting.
The Engagement Party
Our engagement party was on December 22nd, 2014 in Seattle, Washington at my parents' house. All our local friends and family were present for the 3.5 hour event. My mom had it catered and everyone was eating, drinking, laughing, and socializing. Scott and I talked to everyone in the house as much as we could. Towards the end, my father made a speech and champagne toast to welcome Scott into the family. I had 4 of my 6 bridesmaids present and he had 2 of his 6 groomsmen present. During the party, I asked my godfather (my dad's cousin) to be our officiant, and he gladly accepted. It was a wonderful party.
Lindsey’s Bride-to-Be Style
I chose Vow To Be Chic because I was originally planning on renting bridesmaids dresses for my girls and found Vowtobechic.com. I came across the little white dress section and completely fell in love with the Tadashi Shoji Elizabeth dress. I made a mental note that I had to wear that to something bridal related. When my mom announced a few months later that she and dad were going to host an engagement party for Scott and I over the holidays, I immediately knew what I was going to wear and got so excited ordering the Elizabeth dress on Vow to be Chic.
My favorite part about my Vow to be Chic experience is that Vow to be Chic supplied a dress that made me feel the most beautiful I've ever felt at an affordable cost. The Stephanie dress was the most beautiful dress I had come across, and if it weren't for the Vow to be Chic rental option, I wouldn't have been able to wear it. My guests said I looked "stunning", "drop dead gorgeous", "like a diva," and "beautiful".
My #1 style tip for brides to be with celebratory events is... wear what makes you feel beautiful and what makes you feel like a bride-to-be... wear white!
Any Last Advice for Future Brides?
My advice for other brides to be: enjoy being engaged. Our engagement is 14-months long and I feel like I've had a great time being engaged and not rushing around stressed over planning our big day. We just had our engagement party and I still have 8 months for the bachelorette party, showers, and making our wedding perfect. You have the rest of your life to be married, why not enjoy being a fiancé and all the excitement that comes with it.
